🎶 A First for CFSD: The Superchoir!

Posted Date: 10/23/25 (6:00 PM)

For the first time ever, all CFSD choirs came together—from elementary through high school—to perform as one Superchoir at Catalina Foothills High School. Nearly 400 students from grades 3–12 filled the CFHS Music Hall with joy as they rehearsed and performed the National Anthem together on Friday, October 17, before taking the field at the CFHS Homecoming football game.
Seeing students from every CFSD school singing side by side—embracing their friends, laughing between songs, and swaying in rhythm—was truly heartwarming. The energy, connection, and pure joy in that space underlined why choir, and all visual and performing arts, are such an essential part of who we are in CFSD.

Superchoir was led by CFSD’s exceptional choir directors:

Jeffrey Evans, Catalina Foothills High School
Julia Higgins, Esperero Canyon Middle School
Rachel Antista, Orange Grove Middle School and Manzanita Elementary
Kris Flore, Sunrise Drive Elementary
Shirleen Lee, Ventana Vista Elementary
Luke Diamond, Canyon View Elementary
The choirs didn’t just sing together; they learned together. Mr. Evans and the high school choir students taught their younger peers a new song, “You Belong to Me,” featuring a lighthearted kazoo performance that had everyone smiling.
During rehearsal, CFHS choir director Jeffrey Evans offered a powerful message about the meaning behind performing the National Anthem:

“When you perform, the way you stand, the way you shape your facial expressions—those things portray immense amounts of information to your audience. This song is about honor, respect, freedom, beauty, and diversity. You need to show that in your body. Lift your chin. Open your eyes. Look like it’s the most important thing you’ve ever done.”
That spirit carried into the evening performance, where the Superchoir’s voices rose in harmony before a cheering crowd. The event was a huge success—a celebration of community, collaboration, and the power of music to unite generations of students. Congratulations to our choir directors and students for making CFSD history!
